SADC Electoral Observation mission pays a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, received the Head of Mission of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), Honourable Justice Andrew K. C. Nyirenda, and his delegation at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Monday, 22 September.

During the meeting, Honourable Justice Nyirenda informed Minister Radegonde that the SEOM officially commenced its work on 20 September with a formal launch ceremony. He provided an overview of the stakeholders the mission will be engaging with and outlined its mandate to observe the pre-election period, polling days, and the post-election phase. This, he noted, would allow SEOM to gain a comprehensive perspective on how elections are conducted in Seychelles and how the process unfolds thereafter.

Justice Nyirenda further explained that the mission will issue a preliminary report containing its initial findings, followed by a final report at a later stage. He also expressed appreciation to the Government of Seychelles for inviting the SADC Electoral Observation Mission to observe the upcoming presidential and legislative elections.

Minister Radegonde, in turn, conveyed his sincere gratitude to SEOM and to SADC for their valuable contribution during this electoral period. He underscored Seychelles’ strong commitment to its membership within SADC and expressed appreciation for the organisation’s continued support to the country’s democratic process.
