Six silver medals in final day of weightlifting

The weightlifting competition at the 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games has concluded, with the Seychelles team securing six silver medals on the final day of events.

The last events featured the girls’ categories, where Chloe Testa competed in the 76kg division and Syra Louise took part in the 81kg+ category.

Testa competed alongside four other athletes and opened her snatch attempts with 53kg. She successfully lifted 56kg in her second attempt and completed the round with 58kg. That performance earned her a silver medal, with the gold going to Reunion’s Maya Firenzula, who led the field with a 70kg snatch. Madagascar’s Kemba Rakotondravony claimed the bronze with a lift of 56kg.

In the clean and jerk segment, the results were unchanged on the podium. Testa lifted 76kg for her second silver of the day. Rakotondravony lifted 62kg but did not complete her third attempt at 71kg, and settled for bronze. Firenzula again secured gold, lifting 80kg.

With a combined total of 134kg, Testa earned her third silver medal. Firenzula finished with a total of 150kg, while Rakotondravony’s total of 118kg secured bronze.

“I was scared and I cried, as there were a lot of emotions, but I am excited that I won silver today, as I have fought for this,” Testa said.

In the 81kg+ category, Syra Louise was one of only three competitors, which ensured she would receive a medal once she completed her lifts. She started with a 50kg snatch, which earned her a silver. Reunion’s Indira Maillot took gold with a 61kg lift, while Shekina Belombre completed 36kg in her second attempt but could not complete her final lift of 41kg, earning bronze.

In the clean and jerk, Louise recorded 65kg to add another silver to her tally. Maillot managed 77kg to finish first again, and Belombre lifted 47kg for bronze.

“It was a little tough, but I managed to finish second, which was unexpected, but I am satisfied with myself,” Louise said.

Louise ended the day with a total lift of 115kg, taking home her third silver medal. Maillot’s combined lift was 138kg for gold, while Belombre totaled 83kg for bronze.

In addition to the six silver medals, Seychelles athletes also collected eight bronze medals on Sunday.

Guilliano Pierre earned three bronze medals in the boys’ 55kg class, lifting 70kg in the snatch and 89kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 159kg.

Sharina Anthony also won three bronze medals, competing in the 64kg category. She lifted 58kg in snatch and 65kg in clean and jerk, totaling 123kg.

The remaining two bronze medals came from Camilla Farabeau, who lifted 60kg in the clean and jerk in the 71kg category. Along with a 40kg snatch, she totalled 100kg, earning her third place in both the clean and jerk and overall ranking.
