The athletics segment of the 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games got underway yesterday at Stad Linite, with Seychelles earning two gold medals through standout performances by its para-athletes.
The first gold came from sprinter Liam Denis, who clocked 11.97 seconds in the 100m event to secure the top spot on the podium. He finished ahead of Mauritius’ Dimitri Genave, who took silver with a time of 12.29 seconds. Reunion’s Ludwic Myrthe completed the podium with a time of 19.07 seconds, earning the bronze.
Auria Barbe added to Seychelles’ medal tally by winning her 100m race in 17.86 seconds. She narrowly edged out Salome Baukke, who posted 19.75 seconds to take silver. Bronze went to Aliyah Sheik Mamode, who finished in 19.86 seconds.
Outside of the para-athletics events, Seychellois athletes did not secure medals in the other races held on the first day of competition.
Athletics events are scheduled to continue Wednesday, with further participation expected from local athletes.
In Judo, Seychelles has faced challenges advancing to the finals at the 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games, with athletes so far competing for—and securing—bronze medals.
On Monday, Megan Pierre earned the country’s first medal in judo, claiming bronze in the -48kg category.
The following day saw three additional bronze medals added to Seychelles’ tally. Clint Cesar secured a podium finish in the 74kg division, while Dinara Fred earned bronze in the +63kg category. Emmanuel Batin also took bronze after competing in the +81kg class.
While Seychelles has yet to reach a final in judo at this year’s Games, the team continues to show resilience and determination across the weight divisions.
