The police confirmed on 28 August 2025 the arrest of a 38-year-old British citizen, an officer with the Fire and Rescue Service in the United Kingdom, suspected of attempting to smuggle a controlled drug into the country. The man appeared before the Supreme Court on the morning of 27 August 2025, where he was remanded in custody for a period of 14 days while investigations continue.
According to the police, the suspect was intercepted on 26 August 2025 at the Seychelles International Airport upon his arrival on an Emirates flight from Dubai. During a search, police and customs officers discovered several packages in his luggage believed to contain a controlled drug. Investigations are ongoing to identify the exact nature of the seized substance and to determine any possible links connected to the case. The suspect is scheduled to reappear before the Supreme Court on 10 September 2025.
In its statement, the police reiterated that the importation, possession, and trafficking of narcotics are serious offences in Seychelles, punishable by lengthy prison sentences.
