Seychelles Commercial Bank opens new main branch

Seychelles Commercial Bank (SCB) has officially launched its state-of-the-art main branch (Victoria branch) at the Avenue building—formerly Krisnamart Supermarket—with a grand ceremony held on Wednesday, August 20th.

Since its inception in 1981 under an ACT, SCB—previously known as Seychelles Savings Bank—has been a pillar of the community. After operating from Kingsgate House since 1993, the bank faced the challenge of relocation when the landlord announced plans for demolition in December 2024. This pivotal decision led to the establishment of new, modern premises designed to better serve customers.

The new branch features an expansive banking hall with cutting-edge teller stations and dedicated spaces for loan consultations, maximising efficiency and convenience. Accessibility is a priority, as the ground floor ensures that all customers, including those with special needs, can easily access services. The first floor houses specialised loan services, a depth collection team, an account update team, and several meeting rooms, aimed at enhancing client interactions and support.

On the second floor, a spacious staff canteen caters to team well-being, while a large conference room and back office facilitate seamless operations. Officially opened for business on August 18, 2025, this branch is set to transform the banking experience for SCB clients.

In his opening remarks, Michael Benstrong, business operations advisor at SCB, highlighted the importance of location, stating, “Finding a suitable spot in town to accommodate our 40,000 diverse accounts—especially a large number of senior citizens—was crucial. We are dedicated to maintaining accessibility during peak periods.”

Mr. Benstrong further emphasised that this move not only enhances SCB’s capacity to deliver superior services but also creates a welcoming environment that prioritises customer and staff satisfaction. This relocation aligns perfectly with SCB’s strategic vision to expand its digital capabilities and meet the demands of its growing customer base.

The ceremony concluded with blessings from Father Aubrey Pon-Waye and Father Jonah, followed by a tour of the impressive new branch, which embodies SCB’s commitment to excellence and innovation in banking.
