A significant advancement for tourism in Seychelles! On Tuesday, July 5th, the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) and Club Med Seychelles officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), paving the way for a dynamic partnership that bridges education and hands-on industry training.
The MoU was signed at the Botanical House by Mr. Richard Mathiot, Director of STA, and Mr. Lionel Kupper, Director of Operations for Club Med Indian Ocean, with Minister Sylvestre Radegonde and Principal Secretary Sherin Francis in attendance as witnesses.
This collaboration will provide STA students and staff with valuable learning opportunities, including internships, exchanges, specialized training, and access to shared resources. More than just an agreement, it represents a shared vision to cultivate a new generation of skilled and confident tourism professionals, ready to excel on the global stage.
TrishiSanassee, General Manager for Club Med, explained that the goals and vision of this collaboration are clear. Through this MoU, when a student from STA secures an industrial placement at Club Med, the focus is not only on developing their skills as hoteliers. With over 78 resorts worldwide, students will have the chance to gain international experience and make choices that broaden their horizons. This collaboration enables them to bring back valuable insights and resources to their home country, benefiting their fellow citizens upon their return.
“The aim is to help them build skills and share their experiences here in Seychelles, particularly at St. Anne, while also helping them identify their talents. The more we nurture talent among our people, the more potential they can develop, which is rewarding. This allows new talents to emerge, be recruited, and travel the world,” he stated.
The agreement will facilitate exchange programs for both learners and staff, as well as work-based experience. Mr. Mathiot, the director of STA, noted that global exposure would be highly beneficial. “Everyone needs to be up to date with what the tourism and hospitality industry is doing,” he stated, adding that the MoU could also provide internship placement opportunities.
