Macce condemns the dog poisoning incident at Montagne Posee

THE Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, through its Agriculture department, has confirmed it has received several complaints, photographs, and social media posts regarding the alleged incident of dog poisoning at Montagne Posée on Friday, 11th July.

In a press release issued on Friday, the 11th, the ministry said it was deeply concerned by this incident and reassured the public that a formal investigation was currently underway to determine the circumstances and identify those responsible.

“The ministry takes this matter seriously and reminds the public that under the Control of Protection of Dogs Act, 2018, Section 54 (5), Poisoning of dogs; a person who deliberately places poison in any area to bait or kill dogs commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction to a fine.”

It is urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist the ongoing investigation and also appeals for “calm and cooperation as authorities work to ensure justice is served.”

“The welfare and protection of animals remain a priority, and we reaffirm our commitments to upholding the laws that safeguard both animals and communities across Seychelles,” concluded the press communique.
