THE Association for Rights, Information and Democracy (ARID) organised a training workshop on Saturday at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort for a group of 24 observers. The association officially launched its pre-voting observation process in March of this year, compiling monthly reports on five thematic areas it is currently monitoring. These areas include: the use of state media and resources, the level of hate speech on social media platforms, the legal framework, the preparedness and engagement of the Electoral Commission, and the conduct of law enforcement agencies.
During the training on July 12th, various topics were covered, including the role and responsibilities of observers, the media’s role in elections, the legal framework, and more. The workshop aimed to enhance the capabilities of ARID observers and update them on changes in the Election Act and related regulations.
ARID is collaborating closely with the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) and various international election delegations to assess the country’s electoral process. The association commended the Electoral Commission for its meaningful engagement with local observer groups in preparation for the general elections scheduled for September 2025.
ARID has trained over 30 observers who are ready to be deployed in September. Additionally, the association is conducting a series of civic education campaigns in both media and field settings as part of its ‘Voter Education Project,’ which is funded by the National Grants Funding Scheme.
