Government introduces maritime travel authorization

THE Department of Immigration and Civil Status has announced that effective November 4, 2024, international passengers arriving by sea will be able to apply for their travel authorization online, prior to their arrival in Seychelles. In a press release issued on Monday 4th November, the department said the travel authorization (TA) application will be mandatory for every passenger disembarking from a cruise ship or private yacht
from December 1, 2024 following the initial transition period of one month.

“Citizens arriving and departing by sea
must complete the disembarkation
and
embarkation information form, while
permit holders are required to submit their
TA in the usual manner,” read the
communique. “Travellers can submit their
TA/disembarkation information form up
to 30 days before arrival or at the last port
of departure to Seychelles.”

According to the department of Immigration and Civil Status, the TA process for maritime travel is not dissimilar to the one for air travel. It is free
of charge for Seychelles citizens and the fee for foreign passport holders can be found on Seychelles.govtas.com. The exemption from having to apply to TA is granted to seafarers disembarking from a maritime vessel and leaving the country by air on the same day. In other instances, where a seafarer is disembarking and staying at a tourism establishment, the TA will be required, explained the press communique. According to the department, this digital system amounts to bringing maritime travel requirements at par with air processes, enabling enhanced security and facilitation. The new maritime TA can be comp leted through the website Seychelles.govtas.com or the Seychelles e – border app.
