DICT marks its 20th anniversary with a staff recognition ceremony

SEVERAL employees from the Department of Information Communications Technology were recognized for their years of service and contributions that have played key roles in advancing Seychelles’ digital transformation on
Thursday 7th November. This was during a ceremony held at the Eden Bleu Hotel, Eden Island, and as part of activities to celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary. Present for this auspicious occasion were Vice President Ahmed Afif, the department’s principal secretary Benjamin Choppy, chief secretary of the Public Service Bureau, Shella Mohideen, and employees. The highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of staff who have reached key milestones in their careers by serving the (DICT) for many years. Twelve employees were recognized for clocking five to nine years, and 15 for reaching 10 to 14 years of service. Moreover, 14 employees were recognized for having worked with DICT for 15 to 19 years, while nine were rewarded for 20 years of service. Among them was senior systems support officer Jenina Josephine who expressed her joy for receiving this recognition after 20 years spent working for DICT. “I started as an admin assistant then moved to system support officer. Now I’m a senior system support officer. I have attended short courses in India and China, which have been helpful for my personal growth,” said Mrs Josephine, adding that most of her colleagues are male and they encourage her a lot. She invites others to join DICT as it provides a lot of opportunities. In his opening remarks, Mr Choppy highlighted the significance of the event, noting the exceptional service of the department’s staff. He shared that over 60 percent of the department’s workforce has been with DICT for more than five years, underlining the strong commitment and dedication of its personnel. “The number of employees receiving awards today speaks volumes about the hard work, loyalty, and passion that each of you brings to your role,” Mr Choppy remarked. Addressing the attendees, Vice President Afif took the opportunity to reflect on the journey of DICT, retracing the department’s origins and evolution, and acknowledged the
pivotal role that DICT has played in modernizing infrastructure and improving digital access. “We value all the work that you have done and you are a sector that is very important to us. You are part of a technological revolution,” remarked
VP Afif. Attendees had the opportunity to watch a short video entitled ‘Two decades of progress’, where some employees shared their experiences as well as the different sections of DICT. Additionally, there was the cutting of a cake to commemorate the 20th anniversary. —Source: DICT
