In the women’s football competition, the Seychelles team secured a silver medal after a 3-2 loss to Mayotte in their final match. This result means Mauritius clinched the gold.
Seychelles had started the tournament with a 1-0 win over Mauritius, while Mauritius later defeated Mayotte 3-1. A draw or a win in the final match would have been enough for Seychelles to finish top of the group.
Mayotte took the lead in the 24thminute through Soumtah Saidina. Seychelles equalised just before halftime, with Keisha Moustache scoring her second goal of the tournament in the 43rdminute.
In the second half, Rachma Mahindra scored twice in quick succession — once from the penalty spot in the 78thminute and again a minute later — giving Mayotte a 3-1 advantage. Moustache responded almost immediately with her second goal of the match, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. Despite pushing for an equaliser, Seychelles were unable to break through Mayotte’s defence in the closing minutes.
The final score secured Mauritius the gold medal, with Seychelles settling for silver.
