Shipwreck: Indonesian sailor found dead off Romainville

THE lifeless body of a 49-year-old Indonesian sailor was recovered following the sinking of the Serdal vessel,
which occurred last Wednesday near the artificial island of Romainville, approximately 2 kilometres off the
coast of Victoria. The information was confirmed by the Police Department in an official statement.
The Serdal, a ship sailing under the Comorian flag, was carrying a crew of eleven when it sank late in the
day. Ten crew members were rescued, but one remained missing after the incident. After several hours of
searching, emergency teams eventually located the victim’s body, which had been trapped inside the vessel
during the wreck.
The distress call was issued around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maritime and civil rescue services immediately
deployed vessels to the area. Thanks to a swift intervention, ten crew members, including the captain, were
pulled from the water. The captain was admitted to Victoria Hospital with minor injuries. The other nine
survivors, originally from Indonesia and Nepal, were in shock but otherwise unharmed.
